Why Choose Minnesota Vantage Volleyball?

Minnesota Vantage Volleyball’s Philosophy and Training Approach’s

We provide high quality training by a professional coaching staff.  We promote a safe and fun but challenging environment for all our athletes.  While our developmental teams participate in tournaments meant to introduce them to competition, our regional and elite teams are challenged with high level competitions in order to continually develop the player and team’s proficiency in strategic and technical system approaches.

However this is what really sets Minnesota Vantage Volleyball apart from the rest:

Minnesota Vantage is using the player centered, Long-term Athletic Development model in our training practices.  We believe that this sets us apart from area clubs. The typical club model is to train players based on the positions and needs of the club.  Minnesota Vantage focuses on putting training plans together that place the player’s best interests first.  We are committed to safely training girls to reach their full potential as athletes and volleyball players.  While volleyball is a team sport, and positions need to be filled, we believe that we can simultaneously provide training for players who have goals of filling particular positions for their JV, High School and College teams.   Not only do we emphasize all around skill sets to broaden the player’s abilities, but we offer skills sessions to train in secondary positions. We will work closely with girls to assist them in meeting their goals.  For instance, a player who is chosen to fill middle’s spot may also show promise and interest in setting.  We would then encourage the player to not only participate in specialized skills sessions for middles, but to also go through our setters program.  All of this is part of our club services and are at no extra costs.

Our goal as a club is to insure that the player improves all year round instead of an incremental gain followed by a period of stagnation. We want our players constantly playing at a high level and our staff is prepared to work with a player throughout the off season to keep the improvements flowing. Therefore we offer our summer strength and conditioning program and multiple summer skills sessions at no extra costs.

About Long term Athletic Development

The LTAD model is scientifically based and used extensively and quite successfully in other countries to maximize children’s potential to play sports at the elite level. In fact it is often the program used to work with athletes over the long term to develop their Olympic programs.

LTAD provides a structured map for identifying what needs a specific athlete has at particular times in their development.  Athletes go through periods called “Windows of Opportunities’” where their nervous system is primed to gain both general movement and specific fine motor skills.   Exposing athletes to the right skills at the right times maximizes their athletic movement and coordination.  Missing these windows makes learning specific movement patterns and strength gains much harder and may hinder the ability to fully acquire a skill.  A great example of a window of opportunity is the natural ability of very young child to quite easily and fully master a second language.  In contrast it is often very difficult for older children and adults to learn second languages, and often almost impossible to fully acquire fluent skills.

Minnesota Vantage Coaches are trained and go through certification as youth strength and agility specialists and are schooled in the scientific principles of long term athletic development.  Why?  Because athletic development and movement is the very basis upon which sports skills are built.  You wouldn’t send your child to a school filled with teachers who weren’t trained or certified in the basics of child development and learning.  Why should you trust your child with a coach who has little knowledge of a child’s motor skills or principles of safely developing athletes?
